I like the XB-19, but it's no looker. I always thought those heavily-framed cockpit and turret glazings looked like the sort of bomber types we used to draw as kids.
Incidentally, it's possible that your man evaded capture by the Japanese, rather than actually being captured. It's just a thought, but might explain the slight change in story during its re-telling across the decades.

Your chap was in India with 27 Squadron at the start of the war, then returned home via Ceylon and seems to have spent the rest of the war in the West Country. This is how I decipher the "WW2" parts of the record:
