Shown here is a line-up of Albatros D.Vs of a unidentified German Jagdstaffel showing differences in their tail markings. D.2042/17 nearest the camera has a clear unvarnished rudder and grey painted fuselage, but the machine next to it has a rudder covered with dyed 'lozenge pattern' fabric and a fuselage with the top half splashed with purple and brown paint as a form of camouflage.
