Boeing B-17G Fortress

Shown here is B-17G Fortress "Miss Bea Haven", 562nd BS, 388th BG, Knetishall (Station 136), Suffolk, England, showing signs of wear and with a replacement left outer wing panel salvaged from a wrecked Fortress, heads for home. The gun in the radio operator's position had been discarded by this date (26 August 1944). Shadows of the formation's aircraft can be seen on the harvest fields below. The photograph was taken from the nose, over the gun operating arm; the gun handle is in the right-hand corner.
