Sopwith Camel

Shown here is Flight Sub-Lieutenant Stuart Culley lifts off in his Sopwith Camel from a high-speed lighter while in tow by the destroyer HMS Redoubt, circa 1917. He would later shoot down the Zeppelin L.53.
Its actually August 1918. The lighter is being towed by HMS Redoubt. The aircraft is a Sopwith 2F-1 Camel serialled N6812 and the lighter is H3 from Harwich. This Camel was built in Scotland at Dalmuir by William Beardmore & Co.Ltd. This Camel can be seen in the Imperial War Museum, London.
