F4U Corsairs by Edwin Markham

Flying their F4U Corsairs, pilots of VF-17 set a high standard for all to follow while engaging the Japanese over the Pacific during the early years of World War II.
VF-17 was formed in April 1943 and was the first unit to receive the modified F4U-1A which incorporated the frameless canopy.

(Hardly the 'Early years of World War II' -We had been at war since September 1939)
