Shown here is the minelayer/gunnery training ship KMS Brummer in Oslo harbour, 15 April 1940, shortly before leaving on her last voyage at 1630 hours. At 2307 hours off Jomfruland island, she was struck by one of three torpedoes fired by HM/Sm Sterlet. The torpedo impacted below no.1 gun, detonating the forward magazine. The forecastle was cut clean off, leaving no.2 gun pointing towards the water at a crazy angle. Brummer sank at 0650 hours a mile off Tvesteinen Lighthouse. There were fifty-one casualties of which twenty-five were fatal. Virtually all of the dead and wounded had been inthe forecastle.
