KMS Diether von Roeder

Shown here is an aerial shot of Narvik harbour taken shortly after the first British attack. Roeder is seen at an angle to Postkaia, while Ludemann is moored on the other side and Zenker is moving alongside. The freighter aground close to shore in the upper part of the photo is Bockenheim, with the bow of Hein Hoyer further out and the light hull of Cate B further still. The half-sunken ship inside the smoke is Saphir, while Riverton appears to be on fire amidships. The apparently undamaged ship beyond is Aachen. Photo from the collecion of Geirr H Haarr
