On 8 January 1944 the Coastal Command Development Unit reported that successful trials had been carried out at night with a Mark III Low Level Bombsight installed in a Wellington G.R.Mk.XII fitted with a Leigh Light, as shown here. It was recommended that this bombsight should be fitted in the nose of all Leigh Light squadrons in replacement for the front gun, and that depth charges should in future be dropped by the searchlight operator instead of the pilot.
