One of the most dramatic of all US post-war aircraft developments was the Northrop YB-49 shown here. It was an eight-jet bomber developed from the earlier XB-35 four-pistone-engined bomber. Despite good results in speed and range owing to the favourable aerodynamics of the 'flying-wing' the project was cancelled.
