Shown here is the Vichy French battleship Strasbourg (centre) in Toulon Harbour, 27 November 1942, as she settles to the bottom after being scuttled by her crew. Just beyond her is the cruiser Colbert, engulfed in flames. The Strasbourg was raised by the Royal Italian Navy in July 1943, but was sunk again by Allied bombers in August 1944. The French raised her and she served in that navy until 1955 (Treasure Island Museum).
