U-106

The Type IXB boat U-106 left Lorient on 28 July 1943 for its tenth war cruise, under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Wolf-Dietrich Damerow, but its look ran out on 2 August 1943 when north-west of Cape Ortegal, Spain. Wellington G.R.Mk.XII of No.407 (RCAF) Sqd, flown by Wing Commander J.C.Archer, from Chivenor, North Devon, delivered this attack (as shown here). U-106 was damaged and forced to head back on the surface for Lorient. Ref: ADM 199/2060
