Shown here is the Type 1XC/40 boat U-534 (Kapitanleutnant Herbert Nollau) under attack from Liberator G.R.Mk.111 (KH347) of No.86 Sqd, flown by Warrant Officer J. D. Nicol, from Tain, Ross & Cromarty, whilst underway in the Kattegat on 5 May 1945.
Nicol dropped six depth-charges on the U-boat in the rear. This sank stern first, leaving survivors in the water. Only three men of U-534 were killed, forty-nine being picked up by rescue craft from Denmark.
