Shown here is the USS Evarts (DE-5) the first USN DE underway on August 1944. Note the diesel smoke, quad. 1.1 in aft, two single 20mm Oerlikons on the fantail, and depth charge throwers (K guns) and rails angled differently from later ships. There is a light tripod mainmast for the D/F aerial. Ship is painted in Measure 22 ('crazy quilt') camouflage scheme (USN).
