Horsa glider Dunlop (eureka) air pressure gauge

At the Jet Age Museum we are beginning to repopulate the Pilot Instrument panel of our Airspeed AS51 Horsa Assault Glider cockpit project, and, in spite of extensive research, we have been unable to establish the layout of the instrument panel Suction, Pitot and Static pressure pipe runs. There...

Horsa glider Dunlop (eureka) air pressure gauge

The Warning Labels are indeed difficult from the quality of available photographs. For our Horsa Cockpit reconstruction at the Jet Age Museum, we contacted the Dutch Museum who were very helpful and supplied photographs. We then reproduced graphics based on them using a mix of Spartan and Arial...

    British Altimeter 6A/1743 dis-assembly

6A/1743. Mk.XIII Altimeter. The front knurled bezel unscrews counter-clockwise giving access to the dial face. Be very careful; the graduations may well be Radium coated if they are a light beige colour. Not all were at this stage of the War.

    Hawker Typhoon pilot notes

This Pilots Notes document was originally written for the Hawker Tornado; (Hence the variations from a Typhoon 1B layout in the cockpit illustrations.) The Air Ministry did not update the publication when the Tornado was abandoned in favour of the Typhoon 1A/1B.

The Broad Arrow appeared in 1944, replacing the "A Crown M" Air Ministry mark when the Ministry of Defence was created to oversee the armed forces of Great Britain.

The Elusive (and Extinct) Amal Panel Fasteners.

Just to show what a pain in the ass this restoration caper can be... After years of fruitless searching for Amal panel fasteners which hold most of the external panels to the Typhoon airframe, we have established that they are now extinct... the last time we heard of anyone managing to acquire...

    RE: Hawker Typhoon cockpit

Flat top; early war period. Curved top; mid-war to late 50s. Most Typhoon photos showing a flat top BFP come from the early AP1804A and Pilot notes which were written for the Tornado, but were not updated by the Air Ministry when the Typhoon came into service. Below are extracts from AP1275...

    RE: Hawker Typhoon cockpit

Don't forget; there is another bracket which attaches to the centre panel crossbeam to support the top mount for the blind flying panel. I don't have a drawing or part number for this. We made ours on spec and it actually fitted OK. A photo is included.

    RE: Hawker Typhoon cockpit

Hi, Lee; Finally managed to dig out the two final Hawker original drawings for the Gun Sight Centre panel as promised. The crossbeam is the strengthener that fits behind, and across the panel below the dimmer switch locations.
