  • Another update: The compass stand seems most likely to have been from a Fairchild Cornell. The Cornell was used by the RCAF as a trainer, but with a Bendix compass, usually. The P8 was easily substituted for the American item. The IWM suggested this might be the case, so I think their ideas can be taken seriously.
    Updating my request for insights as to what the compass stand I have might be from - I've checked many many aircraft cockpit photos, and the closest I've come are the following:
    An Auster J4 has one like this - but that was perhaps retrofitted?
    The Sea Fury seems to have something similar but it's very hard to see in the pictures.
    Other contenders include a Horsa glider, a Gloster Whittle, and a Hampden.
