Diving - which fighters used it best, and how?

As far as wings ripping off one has to account for different variants that had different armaments in the wings. More guns.....heavier wing that would come off more easily than a wing with less guns in it. I believe in testing either a version of the mustang or even the jug shed its wing because...

Could the later model P47 establish complete control of air over Germany without P51

Did'nt have time to read every post but let us not forget about the survivability of the jug compared to its water cooled counterparts! I bet 50% more jugs made it home out of sheer toughness. Just a speculation.

    Best all-round fighter of WWII

I will again pull the trigger for my beloved t-bolt....it did well as a dogfighter and proved very useable in many other roles. The t-bolt had more surviveability than most on the survey which brought home and protected our most vital asset which eventually helped us triumpf over our foes...the...

XP72 "superthunderbolt" vs TA152 How would they stack up?

In my opinion forget what the superbolt could have done and just look at what the p-47M was capable of. I still believe there was room for even more improvement on that airframe. Just my .02!

    The What is it? Game

Norab....can't come up with the name right now but i'm thinkin of one of those long nosed units they used in the nam to fly supplies to the dangerous runway locations hacked into the jungle that were barely useable airfields

    Favorites and their achilles heels!

I have a book at home that can answer that question but i know it was not designed as an escort fighter....however it still lacked by comparison to some of its competitors in climb rate. Although it did live up to army requirements in airspeed, armament, armor, and self sealing tanks, they came up...

    Favorites and their achilles heels!

shortround6..... I would say original specs....later aircraft were modified to fix shortcomings like range and climb rate. If i were to use the p-47n for example they had good range. So lets stick to originals for now and maybe later we can morph it into something else. Tony
