Meteor, 262 or P-80, if you had to fight in a '45 Jet which would you pick?

the test pilot said it had too many reflections and glare in the cockplt due to all the plexiglass. Other than that, it was found to be very fast in clean configuration, parachute cord removed, no racks under engine pods and no perascope, in this condition UK test gave it a speed of 475 mph an...

    Twin Engine Fighters

Just checked it out, some one posted some numbers that I believe are from the book, British fighters shot down 1275 German aircraft and the German fighters shot down 1050 British aircraft, it seems due to attrition and production the British had a lot more aircraft in December than the Germans.

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

To put its handling into perspective, the Meteor III is said to have a roll of 9 seconds or more at 300 to 400 mph at 10000 ft, I don't know if any one knows exactly roll numbers are, but its roll with out question was horrible due to restrictions imposed upon it, rightfully so by the way, the...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

You know what, as many who have actually flown the early jets will tell you, their initial or sustained climb isn't whats impressive about theor climb performance, its their, what some call combat climb, high speed climb or zoom climb, this is in fact the most important aspect in climbing...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

I should point out there are reasons for the 262 superb handling, one is the introduction of the multi gear control stick, one gives greater leverage and id is very sensitive, another are the superb double hinge servo tabs, these were so effective that other german aircraft started using them...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

Yeah, the British seemed to have played it safe like the US with the P59, at the same time ive read more than once that in one year alone some where around 130 to 140 pilots were killed in accidents while flying the Meteor, that seems crazy to me, don't know which mark it was, remember though...

    Fw190C technical question

I got about the same info as you. The books ive read on the 190/152 say that the 190D9 could use either b4 or c3 fuel, ive read once and only once..is that the top cover d9s of JV 44 used C3 fuel, no way of knowing for sure, but a unit with Galland, bar and Steinhoff, should be able get what...

    Planes of Fame Update

Wow, im also a big fan of early jets, like the AR 234, Meteor, ME 262, P 59 etc...that HE 178 is absolutely awesome, looks like something from George Jetson, I wonder how big or small or what ever it looks in person.

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

The Meteor mk IIIs that were delivered in December 44 were supposedly only a few mph faster due to the more aerodynamic canopy, remember, the first 15 were still equipped with two wellend jets, Meteor mk Is could do about 410 mph, from memory, the operational mkIIIs could do 420 mph. some have...

P-47 Top speed without wing Pylons?

Ive read similar stuff on the p 51, test show a very good roll rate, especially at speed when compared to other prop aircraft, but ive also read that it has very heavy stick forces, forces as high as 20 pnds per G, that's the same as the me 109, other aircraft for comparison, fw 190=11/12 pounds...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

Yeah, you can find the pilots hand book document at zenos warbird videos page, the site also has a document called summary of debriefing of me 262 test pilot and flight instructor Hans Fay, he was told that 15 minutes was max, but had flown for 20 minutes with no problems, Fay mainly tested the...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

I believe air brakes would have been a plus, Galland has stated in his opinion that they would have not have been worth it, slowing down the 262 in a sky full of enemy fighters was not a good idea, but in my opinion, they could have saved a lot of lives, in my reading of 262 kills the majority...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

Those are estimates for ranges, performance etc, for different fuel loads, (a,b,c,d) with an aircraft equipped with 2200 ibs thrust engines, if you look below cruising speed and time to 30000 ft, it states that the 1st few engines will give 2000 ibs of thrust, deliveries to front line units of...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

Oops, sorry, forgot about this thread...the last 15 Meteor mk 3 had the long nacelles, by the end of the war in Europe, they had only produced around 30 or so mk 3s, the test against the tempest where it achieved 475 mph (3 different AC) is dated April 1946, it wasn't until the last 15 mk 3s...

    Dogfight: Me 262 vs. Meteor

haven't read all post, but the top speed of the Meteor mkIII tested during 1st quarter of 1946 was 475 mph, (wih 2000 ids of thust) ive only heard of test during 1945 and that showed 466 mph, due to engine surging, the Meteor was very poor above 20000 ft being slower than the best prop fighters...
