  • In case you have not yet found out I posted a little article by you in honor of the Doolittle Raid anniversary. As you'll see, your advice spoke very strongly to me.
    Barrett ... you've described the "Apache" in your dad's book, whatEVER it was...this is an "accident" of sorts that I saw this. You said it had 4 cannons...well, we all (most of us, anyway) know that the NA-91 that was first officially named "Apache" became "Mustang" and that after 13 July, 1942....EVERYthing that looked like a Mustang was officially named "Mustang." I don't remember ... do you still have the book?

    A lot of sources state that the F6F-5 was the first Hellcat variant with the capability to be fitted with wing cannons.

    Do you know of the specific modifications made to the F6F-5 airframe to accommodate the cannons?
