    Swordfish vs Devastator

Were there any allied air dropped homing torpedoes in WW2? I thought they were all unguided other than the depth and speed set before take off on board ship?

Who operated the machine guns in the nose of a B-17G?

Most hated Axis interceptor for American bomber crews

Were the Germans aware that the US used a master bomber and if so was that plane identifiable and targeted by either flak or fighters?

    Sea Fury Crash

Bugger, I saw it flying at the Yeovilton air day on Saturday, most impressive fighter. I even managed to get a look in the cockpit of the static one then land on my arse in front of the que by sliding off the wing too quick> I hope they get it airworthy again PDQ

    What a bird!

Helicopter licence at 77, what a woman. I am always very keen to learn more about women in the war, in industry, the land army, the forestry service, the various women's forces, nursing etc. It can be very easy to overlook the role they played in keeping the UK wartime economy going and in...

Significance of the Battle of Midway

I can't imagine the number of casulaties that could be inflicted in an invasion of Midway would be anything like enough to weaken US resolve. There simply weren't enough troops on and around the islands. The whole idea of US resolve being weakened enough for them to negotiate I find somewhat...

How fast do dive bombers dive?

What happens to the bomb after it is released? Does it follow the same dive angle onto the target, as the bombs aero dynamics are different from the bomber at some point it must surely change its path, is this taken into account when calculating the drop height?

    V1 Buzz Bomb Aces....

How common was tipping the V 1 over with a fighters wing tip? Was it a wide spread method of destroying them or a method of last resort? It seems pretty dangerous to be flying in close formation with a 1 ton bomb at 370mph.

Crucial points of the Battle of Britain?

Because they were all the right sort of chaps, one of us, decent blokes, went to the right school and all that. Commanded troops on the ground, a mere detail.

Crucial points of the Battle of Britain?

to clarify for myself; Park attacked with multiple squadrons from pretty much as soon as the Germans crossed the UK coast. These attacks were from various directions and continuous. At no time after crossing the UK coast were the Luftwaffe left unattacked, or that was the idea. These attacks...

Crucial points of the Battle of Britain?

By the time the B of B started had the Germans managed to set up any of their own radar stations on the Frech coast? Did the Luftwaffe manage to get any warning of Park's intercepting squadrons beyond visual?

    The P-36 a Zero Killer??? (P-36 Hawk/Hawk 75)

How much did the Japanese know of the Wildcat's performance before they encountered them in combat, as Wildcats and P36s had been around for a few years before 41/42 had any information percolated back to the Japanese that eneabled them to develop tactics to defeat them? Had any French Hawks...
