Beaut pics everyone! Don't have much time, so just for a quick nit-pick, Concorde, on your shot named Lysander_and_Fury_at_Duxford, the biplane is actually a Hawker Nimrod, the only flying one in the world. I know, cos I've got a big fat poster of it on my wall, and the tail numbers of the plane...
I'd pick the P-40, but it ain't a dud :P
I wouldn't mind flying the Cr-42 and Gladiator, Stringbag, the bipe's in Pisis' sig, Stuka, P-36 (Finns used em well), MS 410/Morane, Po2
I agree, to an extent. It definitely wasn't the best fighter available, but it was the most [i[most[/i] available. And it got the job done, if it was THAT bad it would have been withdrawen.
I wouldn't doubt the P-40 so much. I vite for Clive Caldwell, altough he's not on the list. Here's some reasons why:
-Downing 5 bombers in one engagement:
"I received radio warning that a large enemy formation was approaching from the north-west. No 250 Squadron went into line astern behind me...
In North Africa, 1941, flying Tomahawk Mk2's or P-40C's.
P-40 is my favourite but most underrated plane in WW2 IMHO. It did it's just bloody well with bugger all training
Heavy Bomber:B-24 or Pe-8, both could carry bug payloads
Light / Attack Bomber: A-26, but wasn't that a medium bomber? That or Il-2
Fighter Bomber:Mossie or Beaufighter
Air to Air: P-51
Trainer:Hind, could be used as trainer and light bomber/close ground support
I'm going for the Russian Po-2/U-2VS. That or the Stringbag. Po-2 was the most manufactered plane ever I think, with about 40,000 made.
I still go for the Cr 42 for fighter
