I've got a picture of a Buccaneer flying at about 10 feet altitude, the pilot must be nuts!:) Then again the Buccaneer was built so solidly it probably wouldn't have been damaged much if it touched down.
I had a BUFF do a low altitude over my house in NE Washington back in 1992. I felt more...
Probably the best airial gunner ever and the most deadly. Reports from other pilots say that in most of his kills his bullet strikes started at the nose of his opponents aircraft and traveled back to the cockpit.
A little off-topic here.
Does anyone know the availibilty rates of the Luftwaffe and Soviet fighters?
From what I know the Soviet fighters were of a cruder design but were better suited to weather extremes and the rough conditions of frontal airfields.

I guess the Zero's manoeuverability was an advantage early in the war against Buffalos, Wildcats and P-40s.
Did they redesign the control surfaces later in the war for better handling at high speed?
Placing the fuel tank behind the cockpit on the P-51 did cause problems with the center of gravity. It's possible these problems would have been unacceptable with the Corsair.
I think militarily Britain and France were in a superior position to the Germans in 1937-38 but the political will wasn't there in either country to take on Hitler. People like Churchill were considered warmongers in Britain because of the loses of WW I and political instability in France...
WW II wouldn't have occured without Hitler and Hitler wouldn't have been able to rise to power without the Treaty of Versailles, which is why most historians consider WW I and WW II seperate episodes of the same conflict. Hitler only rose to power because of the conditions purposely created to...
Kelly Johnson almost had the Air Force sold on buying bomber and interceptor versions of the Blackbird. The interceptors would have made the F-106 look ineffective and the bombers would have had a much higher survival rate than any other SAC aircraft. Only the MiG-25 had a chance of intercepting...
Most do now, but it was introduced in EW aircraft to protect their sensitive electronics from radiation. At the time the "Queer" got it's name it was one of the few to have this feature.
