The He177 had the best potential. It was a good aircraft. It s problems were not of bad design ,but of bad project management. The engine fires were a problem reasonably easy to solve. The requirement for dive bombing should simply be eliminated. The oversensitive rudder could be fixed.
But...
I am not sure that the loss of the strong glue was after all bad for the German war effort
The Ta154 did not appear to be that much of a improvement over the already in production German night fighters
Certainly could not reliably intercept the mosquito. It's overall performance appears...
The Bf110G appeard in late 1942. It s basic configuration remained unchanged until the end of war. The typical max speed for the clean day version was 595 km/h at 6200m
Using Mw50 for it s Db 605A engines would up 650 ps.
What speed gain could be expected, especially if that huge tail...
The bulges for the heavy machine guns were not required, as it was proved in the later versions of the bf109. They were introduced in the bf109g6 as a fast way to put hmgs into production as soon and as easy as possible. Along with similar choices in other parts of the aircraft the end result...
In ww1 Germany faced similar raw material shortages with ww2. Still was able to produce very competitive fighters to the last day of the war. Fokker dvii and dviii, siemens-suckert DV etc.
In ww2 , from late 1941 , Germany s fighters were badly outperformed by the western fighters. Despite the...
You just can't hold yourself ,can you? The question of the thread was if a spitfire xiv was shot down by a D9.
Kurfust was absolutely correct about you.
And in order to make you feel satisfied. Of course the xiv was far superior.
Greek air force recently restored in enland , a spitfire ix lf, that was sitting for decades outside the war museum. As a child i was climbing ,illigaly, on its wings
Recently i spoke to one of its 3 current pilots. Despite the fact , they say that the engine is better than new after the...
The top fighter of the entire war was the Spitfire. The p47 was an excellent fighter, especially after mid 1943. It performed better in some roles than the Spitfire but it was more expensive, huge fuel consumption, and in the most crucial role of the air superiority, the Spitfire was always...
Moscow was just a battle. A communication center ,nothing more. Napoleon did capture Moscow. So what?
Germany lost the war when lost the ability to recreate her armies. And that ability was lost, mainly, because of the American daylight bomber offensive , a campaign that would be impossible for...
Yes I agree
, America would have a different war to win, but eventually, still, would win, even if it would need atomic weapons.
Without America the rest of the allied powers, against Germany and Japan, the best scenario would be a draw
I am aware of the geography of the American continent...
I did not mean the American soldiers won alone the war . All soldiers from all countries fought bravely. But it was not bravery or brilliant generals that decided the war
It was numbers. Numbers of tanks, aircraft, destroyers,. Food, fuel ,raw materials
And all the other allied countries fought...
It was incredible the industrial capacity of the america. Reading the given statistics above, its clear that Lw despite the badly outperformed main types of fighters, and the overall lower order of battle aircraft numbers, and its broken communications, and the training problems, did cause...
All spitfire versions were superior to the contemporary 109 versions. Only the Bf109F4 , on paper, had parity with the very early spitfires V. If it s engine performed according to the specifications, and that is doubtful.
As for the Mw50. Even if it worked correctly it was very very late...
It is the first time i read that rudel claimed 51 aerial kills. All my books about him say 9-11 kills. Do you have new evidence?
I dont believe he actually destroyed 519 tanks but he did fly 2519 ground attack missions. He kept flying after losing his lower leg. His personal courage is beyond...
