Interesting, it might explain the confusion I have in dates. I have now found out through Forces War Records website, the date my grand-dad joined up was May 1941. If this plane (K5685 and not K6685) crashed and was beyond repair in Sept 1940, how could he have had a photograph beside it?

I should add, I don't have any knowledge where he was posted but I do know his title in his marriage certificate 1943 said Engine Fitter Aircraftman on his sons birth certificate 1945 it said Cpl Aircraftman

I have recently seen a picture of my late grandad in his time in the RAF. He served from 1939. I was wondering what information could be gathered from the tail number in the background K5685. Many thanks in advance Derek
