I agree, the work it takes in flight usually makes you want to stop about half way through and take a break. You also usually beat your hand up pretty bad on the radio tuner box when your nervous and pumping like crazy.
I think the only emergency procedure listed in the whole plane is the one...
That's interesting, on the P-40's you can only discharge the hydraulic fluid down to the standpipe in the tank with the electric pump and actuating the gun chargers. After that you go to the hand pump, and at least on the P-40's I've dealt with, you are still able to get the gear down. On most...
I understand Fred. I work quite a bit with P-40s so I'm always curious about modifications and their origins. My information was the only documented removal order of the gun chargers I knew of. In the warbird world there is a lot of contradicting information. A lot of things that went on in the...
As I stated in my original post, the chargers are connected to the system and can cause it to lose fluid. This will not cause the gear to collapse. Pilots should also still be able to put the gear down. The document does state faulty operation and continual maintenance as the reason for removal...
The gun chargers where not directly connected to the landing gear in any way. They had there own feed from the hydraulic system and the lines went directly from the chargers to the guns. You could have a leak and lose fluid in the system but that would not cause the gear to collapse. The gear on...
What kind of shape is it in? We're looking for these blades for our Helldiver project. We would be interested in it if you were willing to sell.
Thanks, Brandon
The piston rods don't have rod ends. They are flat on the end and rest on bearings on each side. I'm doing some work on our P-38 right now and will try to get pictures if I have time.
It's a Curtiss Electric prop. but I'm still looking into the gear number. The gears aren't Allison as far as I can tell so maybe a radial aircraft like a P-36.
Sorry guys I'm new to this thread posting thing and may have let my opinion get in the way of fact. I'm working on a book, kind of a P-40Q in detail thing. I'm using the original P-40Q prints to redraw major structures of the aircraft as 3D models so I can use them for detail pictures. I'm...
NAA Received information from Curtiss about early P-40 developement testing not specifically the "Q" model. The NA-73 was based off of this information. Below are some documents that NAA received from Curtiss.
