What (or what would) make a good tactical recon aircraft in World War II

O.K., I didnt know that. I can only rely on the bits and pieces I gathered from various sources. Do you know any reliable sources about tactical recon?

How were V-1 kills scored for pilots?

One point about V-1 kills was that the best way to get one down was not to shoot at them, but rather disturb the airflow over the wings by flying extremely close to it, then get your wingtip over one of the V-1 and make this wing lose lift, so the whole device spun earthwards, This needed very...

What (or what would) make a good tactical recon aircraft in World War II

I would strongly emphasize the need for radial engines on tactical recon planes: The Mustang suffered from serious losses when anti aircraft guns hit the cooling lines or the radiator which were easily accessible from the ground. Due to the same reasons, the Spitfire in the tactical recon role...

Favorite plane never built (or perhaps as a prototype).

ALR Piranha, Martin Baker MB3, FFA N-20 and P-16 , Vought XF5-U and just too many more. At least the wing configuration of the P-16 lived on when being used for the first versions of the Lear Jet.

Hi @derekbu : Thanks for the links! I got your drawing some time ago and it is extremely helpful, especially when superimposed on one of the great drawing available at the good people of outerzone.co.uk: Click this! Unfortunately I am no member of facebook, don´t like the way they ignore...

    CAC Boomerang 3-view drawings

I am looking for 3-view drawings of the fuselage truss of the CAC Boomerang. I want to detail the interior of the cockpit of a mostly scatch built model. There are some good pictures of Boomerang rebuilds and some well known see thru drawings but none that show the fuselage framework in relation...

Drawings of Spitfire Mk.IX seat and instrument panel

Hi @TonyT : Great Pictures! But I guess this is a PR.MK.XI, not the MK.IX: I noticed the camera actuator box where the gun sight should be. Am I right?

    Tupolev ANT-26/TB-6 super-bomber project: a Russian giant

Cripples the name "Aluminium Overcast" for a B-17 to a frazzle. I guess pilots could have evaded hostile fire by running around in it. I know, this was said about the P-47, but in this case it sounds just as true.

Which WWII aircraft would you choose?

P-40Q! Yepp. Very high on my list of most beautiful aircraft ever built.

Which WWII aircraft would you choose?

Speaking of lesser known twins like the Whirlwind, I would not mind a DH Hornet. First flown in 1944, so still WW.2 . Clean lines, fast and superb flying qualities, as highly praised by legendary test pilot Eric Brown.- Read the wikipedia about it! Having preferred to choose a profession which...

    Quotes and Jokes

It is this kind of jokes that gave me a reputation as an aviation nerd when in highschool: I thought they were hilarious, but no one else understood them. Good we are in a forum of nerds here!

It's Amazing No One was Killed In This Mishap

Holy SH*T! This was against all odds. Some people should celebrate birthday more than once a year. And I hope they rebuild the Cessna.

Which WWII aircraft would you choose?

Only one aircraft allowed or three completely different ones? If three: - Kawasaki Hien for speed, agility, purity of lines and a wide track landing gear that should make ground handling soo much easier than a Spitfire or a 109. Many Hiens had bold and colourful paint schemes with lots of...

    Most Unattractive Aircraft of WW2

You know there is a Doctor Zarkov who is a prolific paper model designer with his own web shop? A very friendly man at that if I can judge from several exchanges of E-Mails: www.cadbest.com
