You can find a specific manual about all his armament on one CD in the web of Luftfahrt-Archiv-Hafner. It's the "Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-1 und E-3 Schusswaffe" CD which is not very expensive (19 Euros).

Yes, this engine suffers to G as all aero-engines fitted with carburettor in which there is a float chamber.
The bristol Mercury VIII has claudel Hobson carburettor (type A.V.T.85.E )with double float chamber.
Westland lysander had a Bristol Mercury XX engine with a similar Hobson carburettor...

DB 601 engine manual shows one C.R of 1:6,7 for the two!
