    P-47 from a carrier?

OK plenty of USAAF aircraft were catapulted off USN ships in WW2 - but did any every recover back to USN ships in WW2?

    Something about the F4U Corsair

Also it was a modification introduced by the RN to make them more suitable for carrier operations. The USN had decided they were too dangerous for carrier operations so they were only used on shore bases, mostly by USMC squadrons. It was only after the RN had sorted out some of the low speed...

    Something about the F4U Corsair

The stall strip was on the right wing only, to allow the right wing to stall at approximately the same airspeed as the critical left wing which stalled at a higher speed due to engine torque and p-factor. Before the stall strip was added a lot of F4s were lost on take off or on bolters (go...

Fiat Falco CR42 in Burma or Singapore?

Can confirm it is VT-AHZ - reg is just about visible under the wings on one of the images.

Fiat Falco CR42 in Burma or Singapore?

Thanks - that does seem a likely hypothesis. I also discovered that the Australian Air Force had a Waco in WW2 but can't find any more info.

Fiat Falco CR42 in Burma or Singapore?

Thanks for that - just also been digging around on the internet and it seems the RAF Wacos were only used in North Africa in support of LRDG so your suggestion of it being an Indian Waco might be possible.

Fiat Falco CR42 in Burma or Singapore?

Yes, that would fit. Also, apparently two did serve with RAF in WW2 - ZVN-8 and ZGC-7. If you look very carefully at the underwing area on the original photos it is possible to make out the tops of some large lettering which does fit "VN"

Fiat Falco CR42 in Burma or Singapore?

OK I finally got the photos. On closer examination, it is not a CR42 - but I have no idea what it is. It is a radial engined sesquiplane, and wing struts resemble CR42 hence my original wrong guess. But looking closer, the aircraft is smaller, the undercrarriage leg are on the fuselage and not...

Fiat Falco CR42 in Burma or Singapore?

Thanks for the information - I do not have the photos with me right now but have asked them to be scanned and sent to me and will post as soon as I have them. It does seem that it could be a CR32 given the two blade prop and possible Nationalist China collection. But I examined the photos...

Fiat Falco CR42 in Burma or Singapore?

Hello everybody! I recently came across a trove of WW2 photos taken by my Great Uncle who served with the Gordon Highlanders in Burma during WW2. There are several photos of a Fiat Falco CR42 which he must have taken somewhere in Burma or possibly Singapore during a stopover there. Rather...
