    B-29 & P-38 flaps

I have done a detailed ordinate study for the P-38 including the Flap layouts, for which I have attached a few files to give you some idea of the content. Let me know if I can assist you further.

    P-38 Wing Flap Carriage Connector?

I stated in my first post "This rod is attached to a spherical bearing to the carriage arm which gives it multi-directional movement...however, the smaller tie rod (blue item) on the wing flap itself is attached to a normal AN200 bearing which is not multi-directional." I also demonstrated in a...

    P-38 Wing Flap Carriage Connector?

The AN200 is specified in the tie rod assembly drawings; that is a planar bearing. The essence of the problem is that at the default settings, the Track Carriage and the Flap are slightly out of alignment but as I said there is the capacity to adjust this carriage alignment, however, that is...

    P-38 Wing Flap Carriage Connector?

Thank you. That is how I expected the tie rods to be connected when I first started this study. Perhaps the attached images showing the exploded view for each connection will clarify.

    P-38 Wing Flap Carriage Connector?

There are various layout drawings that show this configuration similar to #237500 and #249131. The main attaching brackets for the flap are #238181 and #238180 which cover model variants E, F, G, H, J, and F5B which defines how the blue rod end tie is typically installed.

    P-38 Wing Flap Carriage Connector?

I am currently researching the wing flap geometry for the P-38 Lightning and came across a small issue that I hope you can help me with. The wing flap connects to the track carriage at 2 points with the upper connection being directly connected to the carriage arm and the lower connected to a...

    P-39 Airacobra Horizontal Stab LE?

Drawing #14-210-501 refers back to the drawing in question #12-210-501. There is another variation on the stabiliser drawing #12-211-001. Neither the former #14-210-501 nor the latter #12-211-001 contain the information I need to verify the information that would undoubtedly be noted on...

    P-39 Airacobra Horizontal Stab LE?

Thank you, I already subscribe. I have determined an approx sweep angle and location based on the best available data. The sweep angle comes in at roughly 16.7 degrees. If there is an opportunity to verify these dimensions I will endeavour to update this post.

    P-39 Airacobra Horizontal Stab LE?

Thank you. I did look at the fillet layout which more or less agrees with the NACA report location. I emailed the Finnish AF Museum and Niagara Aero Museum, both of which have P-39s. I shall endeavour to also contact some of the restoration companies as you suggest and hopefully, they may be...

    P-39 Airacobra Horizontal Stab LE?

I am working on the Horizontal Stabiliser layout for the Bell P-39. I ran into a few problems with getting the layout dimensions to ensure alignment with the jig positions on the rear fuselage...that is more or less sorted but I do have an issue with the LE setout. The HS layout refers to...

    P-38 Lightning Wing Tip

The wingtip for the P-38 Lightning has a trimmed Trailing edge which is a consequence of the connection between the top and lower panels. I wonder if anyone has close-up photographs of the wing tip showing this tabbed edge at the wingtip and further inboard at Sta 289?

    P-38 Lightning Engine Cowl Drawings

I am working on a new ordinate dimensional study of the P-38 Lightning. I wondered if someone may have a copy of the following Cowl Mold line drawings: Lockheed 195072, 195081, 232542, 232544, 232545 and 232764. I don't have these in my archive and neither does it seem to be with the Aircorp...

    P-51 Mustang Data Copyright Infringement

Thanks Jim. This episode has forced me to rethink methods of data share without providing an opportunity for others to exploit for commercial gain. The plan is to develop either a new website or blog and find some way to share digital data in a secure fashion. I could provide just PDFs but that...
