    Duxford new birds...sort of...

I FLEW in Shackleton 'Charlie' - 206 sqdn. (Minus the Jato's). Heart-wrenching to see her 'dead' in a museum!

    Identify these British aircraft

Avro Shackleton Mk. I. Nose radome: radar ASV Mk 7 or maybe they'd upped to Mk. 13. Friends of mine crewed, can't remember the Squadron - easy enough to find out.

    Sunderland vs. eight Ju 88's

As a post-war Sunderland Air Signaller I've heard the Boat vs 8 JUs story, but never heard that most of that crew bought it in another 6 JU attack! Another story is of a Sunderbus ferrying 88(?) escapees from Greece to Egypt. Couldn't take off so they taxied across the Med! Cheers, Ian/Eddy

    Survival manuals

I remember our RAF survival manuals well. In the event of a shark circling your dinghy, the Sea one advised, 'everyone face outwards in a circle and slap the water to drive it away.' On a sea survival exercise off Singapore we had to do that and that encouraged the beast to hurtle TOWARDS us...

    Lancaster Squadron Leaders Marking Question

Hi guys I think I've seen Heinrich Weigmann's Lanc model on the RAF Forum - it seems to have a rail/aerial (probably one on each side) behind the radome. Anyone know what that's for? Ian Edwards (new boy/sprog!)
