Nakjima Homare - what's the verdict?

Hello Gentlemen. One interesting source of information is Steve Hinton's commentary as he flies the A6M5 being described. I presume this fellow knows quite a bit about the particular aircraft and its capabilities. One of the unusual things about this particular A6M5 is that it is equipped...

    The Guns We Own

The FN-49 / SAFN really are nice rifles, but they do have a few engineering flaws. The quality of manufacture is quite excellent. As you mentioned, they are a bit on the heavy side but that is generally what happens with solid steel and a dense hardwood stock. The major flaw in the design is...

    The Guns We Own

Hope there were no significant injuries. I suspect I know what might have actually happened. My first guess is that you were using reloaded ammunition. If so, one of the things to know is that the FN-49 like a few other semi automatic rifles has a free floating firing pin. Like the M1 Garand...

What Is The Last Movie/Show You Saw?

Flying Leathernecks, 1951 with John Wayne. Fun movie with some good aerial and gun camera footage but technically a fairly poor movie.

    The Guns We Own

This is my 2A1 rifle. It is in much nicer looking condition than I remembered it. Note the Ishapore squared front sight protectors. I really don't like those. These are the markings under the bolt handle. I can't quite figure out what is on top. It sort of resembles a crown but not quite...

What Is The Last Movie/Show You Saw?

The War Lover, 1962 with Steve McQueen and Robert Wagner. Not a particularly good movie except for the low level flying sequence with a B-17G.

    The Guns We Own

After the mention of the Ishapore .308 Lee Enfield here, I decided to look at my own Ishapore 2A1 rifle. It appears to be in pretty good shape, but I never spent any time tuning or inspecting for accuracy bugs in the gun. I also watched a bunch of videos of people who have bought Royal Tiger...

    The Guns We Own

I have guns with the standard sights and obviously one with a locking bar sight. I also have one with the NM/2A sight which is basically the same thing but with finer threads in the base and in the windage knob so that the windage clicks move the sight only 1/2 MOA. My first M1A had the...

    The Guns We Own

You don't need a screwdriver to make sight adjustments on the typical M1 or M14 sight. The screwdriver is just needed if you want to adjust the tension on the sight or disassemble it. The locking bar was added when it was found on early models of the sight that the inertia under recoil would...

    The Guns We Own

I have not found the locking bar sights to be any easier to use than the regular sight but this is what came on one rifle, so I figured I would lieave it the way it was because it was more representative of what was found during the war. On this particular rifle, I replaced the gas cylinder...

    The Guns We Own

Why did you want a locking bar sight on a M1A? That seems like a bit of an anachronism.

    The Guns We Own

The corners of the ears on the nosecap are just the most obvious difference. There are a few more shape differences if you compare the two nosecaps side by side.

    The Guns We Own

Has anyone thought about grinding off the corners from the nosecap of an Ishapore L2A rifle? The nosecap will still be a bit boxy looking but from a casual glance will be a lot closer to a SMLE.

    The Guns We Own

Not sure what caliber your new Uberti revolver is in but for my Ruger Old Army revolver, I stopped buying the .45 cal lead balls and just used the 200 grain SWCs I was casting to load in .45 ACP. They worked pretty well and I didn't even bother sizing them so making them was pretty easy. The...

airman killed in pistol mishap at F.E. Warren AFB

Agreed. Chambering a round and having the firearm go off isn't exactly negligent. Neither is chambering a round, applying the safety and having the gun go off. Rules still require that muzzle not be pointed at anything valuable, but I do not believe the discharges would be negligent.
