Jay A. Stout graduated from Purdue University in 1981 and was subsequently commissioned into the United States Marine Corps. After being designated a naval aviator in 1983 he flew the F-4 Phantom and the F/A-18 Hornet, and flew 37 combat missions during Operation DESERT STORM. He retired in 2001 after logging nearly 4,800 flight hours. Following retirement as a lieutenant colonel, Stout flew for Delta Air Lines for several months until being furloughed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He then flew F/A-18s for the Kuwait Air Force before returning to his home in San Diego where he works as a senior analyst/manager for a large defense corporation. A longtime writer and student of military history, Stout has written eight books and his work has been read on the floor of the U.S. senate and has additionally been featured in a variety of journals and newspapers. Fighter Group: The 352nd “Blue-Nosed Bastards” in World War II (Stackpole Books, 2012) is his latest book.
