    R-4360 Ruggedness

Total fuel flow, not per engine. Leaned out to normal cruise I think would yield about 3000-3500 ppl total. But, you have to figure that producing a TAS in the mid 300 kts. And, of course only carrying 100 or so people. So, where I was going with the line of thought: it was a goodly amount of...

    R-4360 Ruggedness

I think the above discussion was also true of the R3350. Both engines were the ultimate radial engines, pushing the technology and materials to the max. Initially, fire and failure was just part of the process. But, as noted, once the crews learned how to operate them, they would last a long...

    Bluie West #1

Great story, Bill. Thank you for posting. I was surprised to read that you crossed in January. I thought the route was generally closed from November-ish to March-ish, depending on the actual weather. Also, the thought of bailing out at night, over the ice cap in likely hurricane force winds...

Good recce, Bill. That's an old pic and I need to update my profile. I was on the 757/767 for 18 years as FO, instructor, CA and APD. Alas, seniority being the "only thing", I find myself on the Baby Bus now (319/320/320), but it's all good. You're right though, the 757 is a rocket, even...

ALL FORUM MEMBERS, IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT, PLEASE READ!

Njaco, I'm later than you! This is such a great website and simply awesome thread. Bill, thank you for sharing your experiences. Your memories give real texture to simple dates in history. I'm a bit of a B-17 nerd so I consolidated the aircraft listed in your mission notes: Ship SQDN...

    Boeing B-47E

A Harrier in hover is loud (at least up to the crash/boom...sorry, I couldn't resist). But the old pure turbo-jets were simply ear splitting, pumping out huge amounts of decibles and black smoke. VERY COOL!!!
