Hi all. I'm looking to pick up a new book, but I'm having difficulty finding what I want. I'm hoping to get some suggestions here.
What I'm looking for is a very pilot-centric, immersive, story driven yet somewhat technical WWII book written from a pilot's point-of-view. Are there any good...
I had not considered the nose wheel habits that needs to be unlearned in modern times, where circa WWII the would-be Pilots started fresh on taildraggers. I will likely have the same "unlearning" experience when I do my taildragger training, so I'll hopefully have more first-hand feedback on...
This is good info. My thoughts when creating this thread was that as least some pilots would have started of with the J3 Cub, and progressed to the Stearman (and other PT designated aircraft). Aircraft like the Stearman (not sure about the Ryan and Fairchild trainers) seems like a difficult...
Hi Wes. Sorry for the delayed reply, I don't seem to be getting email notifications from this site anymore...
I almost can't believe you'd want to get rid of these. Not sure where you reside, but yeah absolutely I would love to have it!
Thanks for the link, I'll have a look.
So the general consensus is (for the USAAF at least) a trainee pilot would have progressed through PT, BT and then AT trainers. Anyone have any idea how many hours on each before progressing?
Would any pilots have jumped directly from a PT trainer like...
Hi all.
I'm looking for information (and / or discussion) on the training path that WWII pilots would have gone through. To be specific, I'm looking for information on what aircraft would have been the first a pilot would have been trained on (if these was more than one, what would have...
That's mostly true. However I don't agree that you had to be in a near vertical climb to initiate a stall that could lead to a flat spin. Stalling happens when exceeding maximum angle of attack (of the wing). It can happen when airspeed is too low in straight and level flight, or at high...
Hi all.
This is my first post on this forum :)
Like a few others, I was surprised to see the P-51 Mustang voted as the most over-rated aircraft of WWII.
Is the P-51 over-rated? Yes, it is. Is it THE MOST over-rated aircraft of WWII? No it isn't, how can it be? Let me explain why I don't think...
