Definitly a hoax. I have seen the background of that same photo on the original (un-canarded B-17) pic.

I am wondering that if anybody put a spinner cone on the nose of a P-47, how fast would the plane fly? And is there a mathematical solution? I am 12 years old and I like to know these things.
