Small wings/high wing loading of German fighters

It was possible to increase the wing area, it was done in the Bf 109 T model. It was produced, though I admit i don't know if the limited run (60 or 70, sourvces differ, produced by Fieseler) was delaying other license production from Fieseler? According to this web page Me 109 T the span was 11...

How good was the soviet air force?

When all is said and done and nazi propaganda is weighed against stalinist, the precise details will still elude us. As all sources to some extent are compromized. But the conclusion above from post nr 7 still stands.

The airplane that did the most to turn the tide of the war.

This thread is certainly becoming very revealing. Not to be outdone, I can reveal that the super plane whose appearance yet again turned the tide in the pacific war (as the european one was over), making the Japanese belive they still had a chance, was merely a copy of an allied plane. It is...

The airplane that did the most to turn the tide of the war.

It's not just about sinking the uboats. It's also about spotting an varning convos so they make take another course. it's about slowing the uboats down when they either has to crash dive, or do not dare to run on the surface. it's about mission kills. I frankly admit I cannot back this up with...

The real combat history of the Ki-43

In the Pedestal thread Thomas P mentioned the Ki-43-III, and I think it popped up other places in recent discussions. I was under the impression that it was not mass produced, and that at most a handfull could have become operational. However, my information could be seriously outdated?

How good a plane was the P-40, really?

Don't forget the cast iron cockpit heater!

The airplane that did the most to turn the tide of the war.

This one sure is a tricky one. I agree with those who has observed that the tide didn't turn on one spesifik day because of one specific air action. But here goes. The metafor with the turning tide refers to the high water mark. On the maps that can be said to have occured in late 42, though...

    Non-USN single engine night fighters

The Italians used the Re 2001 as a night fighter. I do not know to what extent they were modified, or if they had any success. While they probably didn't get radar, they may have made the pilots eat tomato's to improve their night vision.

    Worst liquid-cooled, V12-powered, single-engine, single-seat, monoplane, retractable undercarriage fighters of WW2?

I doubt that there were many of those left for the M.S. 406 when all the squadrons og Bf-109 were having their share too. But as always the finns show the way, though as usual they are tinkering. Remebering our thread about reliable youtube sources, I'm not entirely sure of this channels...

you're right, of course. With the gunner missing it dosn't stand a chance.

    Worst liquid-cooled, V12-powered, single-engine, single-seat, monoplane, retractable undercarriage fighters of WW2?

If we are including fighters that didn't go into production or become operational, it will be rather difficult to decide.
