    Sword Ki-84 markings "357FR"

Thankyou for the picture and info! Same unit marking and exhaust system as what's offered in the Sword kit. The start of a pattern? :D

    Sword Ki-84 markings "357FR"

Hello all! I'm building the Sword 1/72 Ki-84 and one of the marking options is for a natural metal machine from the "357th FR" with a tail marking that roughly looks like a 1164....but I don't know much about Japanese markings and I can't see anything on Google. Picture of the instructions...

    BoB spitfire colours?

I should have caught that before posting. :D Ok, so it really is/was neatly distributed grime :)

    BoB spitfire colours?

:D :D theory in the opposite direction... previous painted black. painted Sky in a hurry. Possibly rubbed with gasoline on multiple occasions... ...could it be the original paint showing through? :D

    BoB spitfire colours?

Why take the time to rub the whole panel with *some* effort to "staying in the lines?" :)

    BoB spitfire colours?

Well, the bottom of the fuselage and lower cowling is definitely not black.... and I am very confident in saying that it's not the lighting. :) Lighting also *suggests* that it's not silver. There is no "gleam/glint/shine" from the lighter colour. The upper cowling has a shine to it. There is...

    BoB spitfire colours?

P.S. The 'Sky' underside colour (of which there were various shades in the 'early' days, due to local mixing differences) was introduced on existing, in service aircraft, on June 6th 1940, and on June 11th on the production line. The underwing roundels were standarised at 50 inches, effective...

    BoB spitfire colours?

Another pic. Ok, maybe not painted. Those particular panels have been deliberately discoloured one way or another. The colour difference follows the panel lines too "neatly" Why would the wing of YT-N still be black when the fuselage has been done? :)

    BoB spitfire colours?

I've read that during July (1940) the undersides were repainted as and when possible. I've also read that a couple of squadrons ended up with pale, light blue undersides. Light grey also popped up a couple of times, but that is usually connected to Hurricanes. During the repainting, the...

    P-47D Bubbletops on D-Day itself

I've visited the Home | American Air Museum in Britain site a lot for assorted things over the years :) I found this picture (D-25RE and full stripes) via your link, YGBSM. My way of navigating the site is still quite basic, though. That's a great pic of the lineup ready for takeoff!

    P-47D Bubbletops on D-Day itself

Thankyou all for the replies so far! Also to Fubar for the PM :) :) Another question based on the pics so far..... if the upper surfaces don't have D-Day stripes, I have (so far) assumed that the picture was taken from July onwards... Is that accurate? That stance came from RAF colours...

    Newer than I thought!

I'd thought i'd posted here a few times before going on a hiatus (real life gets in the way...) but it turns out that I didn't. So...hi! I love WW2 planes and learning about WW2 (mostly aviation) fascinates me. My family has no air force connections, though. My dad was an army medic (west...

    P-47D Bubbletops on D-Day itself

Hello all. I am aware that the bubbletop was entering squadron service just before D-Day and the first planes, of course, went to unit commanders....... but how many were in action on D-Day itself and maybe the first few days afterwards? Finding stories/history of P-47 units isn't so hard...
