Great photo. At the risk of sounding like a dummy, what are those tubes and those round areas that appear to be openings on the top of each boom? The tubes look like guns but I thought that all of the P-38's guns were in the nose.

    Ferry Command

I don't remember offhand which WASP it was, but one of the WASP who flew P-39's and P-63's to Great Falls to be flown on to Russia sat across from one of the Russian women in the chow hall who had came to pick up a 'Cobra . There's an interesting little anecdote about the WASP not knowing who...

    Ferry Command

Along those same lines, I have a very interesting little booklet titled The Atlantic Bridge published in London in 1945 by His Majesty's Stationery Office. I paid a nice little price for it to an Air Canada pilot who fetched it back across the pond for me when I was working in Alberta a few...

    Royal Marines slang...

Here in Texas we have coyote ugly. You may have heard of it. Man wakes up and sees horribly ugly, naked woman sleeping with her head on his arm. Rather than wake the wretched woman up, he chews his arm off and escapes leaving her asleep. THe only thing worse is double coyote ugly. That's where...

    Hi

Hello and welcome to the site. I used to enjoy model airplanes years and years ago when a "stick model" kit cost a dime and was powered by a rubber band. I used to build Foker D-7's and P-40 Warhawks, my two favorites, and fly them until they crashed too many times and couldn't be fixed. Then...

    Hello everybody

My primary MOS was 2531, field radio operator. Of course, like every other Marine then, my secondary MOS was '03, ground pounder, grunt, infantryman which ever title you care to use. Congrat's on the flying. I wanted to get into OCS and possible flight training but partial color blindness shot...

    Hello everybody

Roger that, Marine. I was in the USMCR from 1958-1966 and I'm proud of that honorable discharge hanging on the wall.

    Hello everybody

Thanks for the welcome. I'll have to work on getting a few shots up. A lot of my stuff is still on medium format film and I haven't gotten around to having the neg's scanned yet. I do have a few museum shots on digital, though and I'll get some of them marked and post them. I must say though...

    Hello everybody

Hello. My name is Jim and I live in Texas. I was too young to fly in WWII (born in 41) but I always wished I could have. My cousin was a waist gunner on a Fort in Europe and I used to listen to his stories by the hour along with the ones my uncle told me about the kamikaze attacks on the...
