    The Zero's Maneuverability

US Strategy, such as it could be called in Vietnam, wasn't about dehousing or outright elimination of the North. That's what the USAF&USN did in North Korea, and ran out of worth targets in a year. North Vietnam, very, very strict RoE until 1972 South Vietnam? 'That Map Grid looks good...

Alternative light and anti-tank guns, 1935-45

Something from 10-15 years ago, when I started making a list. So many links have disappeared since then.

If Italy is neutral what does its air force look like by Sept 1942

Sweden had one of the best pre-war light tanks Stridvagn L-60 M/38 Torsion bar suspension 8 tons Later versions were uparmored and upgunned Italy's L6/40 also used torsion bars Problem with both, for economic reasons, didn't plan on 30 ton tanks being a requirement, and didn't have the excess...

If Italy is neutral what does its air force look like by Sept 1942

Neutral, they will get examples of both German and Allied Armor, as Sweden did. It would be different, but not worse. a dual purpose 75-90mm main armament makes sense after 1941, as with sloped armor, and a big enough engine to move it all around.

Polish outfitting & positioning of their armed forces, 1935-39(40?)

But not on fighters, which I was focusing so far. Interceptors need the better props ahead of bombers. For Bombers, even the B-18 isn't a horrible choice to bulk up numbers, as again, Douglas was selling licenses for the DC-3 to anyone with a deep enough bank account as Curtiss was for...

Polish outfitting & positioning of their armed forces, 1935-39(40?)

Which is fine, comparing that China was hardly industrialized, and India no better. Poland, OTOH, had been building all metal monococque aircraft since the PZL P.7 in Warsaw seven years before the War started, so could do more than just final assembly from knock down kits in 1938. Curtiss kits...

If Italy is neutral what does its air force look like by Sept 1942

Italian presence in China Considering the IJA attacked every other Western Power in China, so would Italy in Dec 1941 Besides sinking USS Panay, the Japanese also damaged the CL Raimondo Montecuccoli in 1937, there was some history there, with Italy far more friendly with the KMT Italian/US...

Polish outfitting & positioning of their armed forces, 1935-39(40?)

Answer for late '30s is license built Curtiss Hawk-75. Poles just need to find the money, as Curtiss would be happy to sell. If China was able to build these, so could Poland Faster than developing the Polish PZL.50 'Hawk', as could be in widespread squadron service by War start, since Curtiss...

Radial engines favored for powering the tanks & AFVs, 1935-45

The big reduction in postwar AFV has been to minimize the area above the track run, the Sponson, to keep low, along with rear drive. Tiger got a triple hit to height, Torsion bar runs at the bottom, clearance for drive shaft, and then sponsons for ammo storage. This layout was started by the...

American purchase programs, alternatives and reality, 1937-43

On paper, the GAA had 500HP and 1040 ft-lbs of torque, vs 425HP and 1060 ft-lbs of torque. The difference was, the Multibank torque peak was at 1400 rpm, compared to the Ford that came in at the far higher 2200rpm So the Chrysler had more usable power at lower rpms. that 4000 pound of extra...
