    Synchronised engines

During WW2 Luftwaffe aircraft were, at night, easily indentified by the sound of their unsynchronised engines, whereas those of the RAF were synchronised. Does anyone know exactly how engines are either desynchronised or synchronised ?

Which was the best night fighter?

The Mosquito, being a tail dragger, had it's guns well tucked away under the nose and out of pilots eyeline.

Which was the best night fighter?

Until he died 4 or 5 years ago I was privileged to be an assistant to Group Captain John "Catseyes" Cunningham, who was, arguably, the finest night fighter pilot of WW2 and who pioneered the use of airborne radar to intercept Luftwaffe aircraft throughout the whole of WW2. Although he was too...

What do you do for a living?

I used to practice law until I retired early to undertake to research military history for authors, but now I write the books myself ( one published and five more under commission ). Don't ask me their titles, though, or else I'd have to kill you !

How much is gas where you live?

I know that Ike (and other ?) hurricanes have pounded parts of the USA, but does anyone know if Cuba has been badly hit ? I am going there next month for a couple of weeks and have not heard/read of Cuba's condition. I do know, though, that the Cuban websites I have accessed recently seem to...

How much is gas where you live?

I run a V12 six litre Aston Martin DB9 that does about 12 miles to the gallon, so I make a point of never bothering to find out was the cost of fuel is. It'd break my heart if I ever found out !

What Is The Last Movie/Show You Saw?

"There Will be Blood" with Daniel Day-lewis. If there is a better actor than this guy, then I don't know him !

Which was the best night fighter?

Did night fighter pilots rate speed and altitude as especially desirable in a night fighting aircraft ? Before he died I was fortunate to be able to work as unpaid secretary to Wing Commander John "Catseyes" Cunningham and he always rated other factors as being more more important. Chiefly...

    Mosquito versus the German fighters

***************************************************** Mosquito aircrew certainly had the highest survival rate of any Allied aircrew in WW2. Re the Mossie versus German aircraft. I was fortunate to work as unpaid secretary for Group Captain John ("Cat's Eyes) Cunningham for the last few...

8th Air Force gun camera footage recovered!

I'm sorry to nick this thread, but I noticed that you are a Czech. I plan to visit Prague in the Autumn and would like to know if the area where SS Gauleiter Rudof Heydrich was attacked is still intact or has it been converted into a shipping mall or something ? Do you know ? Thanks, Marlin

    PISTON ENGINE AIRCRAFT JET KILLS

"The only air to air kill by a Brit. pilot in a Brit. aircraft in the Korean War" ? That takes some believing !

Best Tank Killer of WW2 continued

Someone here mentioned the Beaufighter as being a credible tank killer. Where and when would that have been ? Do they want to justify that comment ? Marlin

    Group Captain John "Catseyes" Cunningham

I consider myself to have been fortunate to have both known and served**this great man during the last few years of his life. As a frequent visitor to the USA ( where I invariably always meet many American WW2 air and groundcrew ), I am always surprised that "Catseyes" is so little known there...

Luftwaffe nightime attacks on British locomotives

I have been peripherally interested in the above subject for some little while. Does anyone want to kick off with any contributions on this subject ? ( or even attacks made in the daytime ). Failing that, I once remember reading about a number of Brits ( either Air Raid wardens or Observers )...
