    P 51-H

Also, you might have a subscription to aircorpslibrary (9$ a month), they have an infinite amount of sources and original drawings as you might already know. They have the latest erection and maintenance instructions I could find, 1948 and it includes updated dimensions and stations...

    P 51-H

Hi, the tail was changed for the production like @mjfur did show in pictures. That is why some manuals/sources list different tail sizes. You can check the NACA document explaining the changes: Measurements of the Lateral and Directional Stability and Control Characteristics of a P-51H Airplane...

Best piston engine(s) for fighters of 1945?

Lmao what are you talking about. The hornet and the sea fury both have good performance at mid to high alt. USN developed the F4U-5 and the F8F-2 which are high alt beasts.

Best piston engine(s) for fighters of 1945?

Yes, the AU-1 (F4U-6)uses the same engine as F8F-1 and F7F-3. Quite a good engine at low alttitude but lacks mid-high alt performance at high power settings. The french requested an AU-1 version with high alt performance and the R-2800-18W was back on the F4U-7. So high alt performance is...

Best piston engine(s) for fighters of 1945?

Water Injection 60'' or even 70'' can be used very safely in intermitent 5 minutes periods until water is out (around 12 minutes of use). Military 55'' 2100-1880-1700 can be used in intermitent 5-15 minutes periods, unlimited. Normal 47-49'' 1700-1630-1550 can be used in unlimited periods.

Best piston engine(s) for fighters of 1945?

I have to go with the R-2800-18W, very powerful yet compact and in combat in 1945 in the F4U-4:

Just like many engines. Every R-2800C with just 100/130 can use 70'' with water injection.

    F4U-5 handling performance reports

https://www.aahs-online.org/images/Navy_SAC/F4U-5.pdf I estimate clean performance would be about 25 knots faster. So about 640kph at SL and 780kph at 31000 feet!
