Schweiks Sim vs. Real Flying Debate Thread

Anyway since this whole situation is my fault for bumping that ancient thread, I’ll shut up for another year now.

Schweiks Sim vs. Real Flying Debate Thread

I know he does, I knew that when I first joined here last year or whenever it was. What I’m saying is, it is my belief that only people like him can have any idea of what it’s like. No amount of money spent on a private pilot’s license, no matter what you are flying, is going to help you...

Schweiks Sim vs. Real Flying Debate Thread

You’re right, I don’t see anyone in this thread saying it. I am not very familiar with this community to be sure, but there are three types of people who tend to be common in WWII aviation sites/threads since the beginning of the internet. 1) the one who is the terror of the online IL-2 servers...

Schweiks Sim vs. Real Flying Debate Thread

One other thing. Military fighter experience is totally different I am sure, and I am not talking about that here. But in terms of the physical reality... spending money and time puttering around in a Cessna doesn't give anyone any more credibility to make authoritative statements about WWII...

"Most pilots shot down didn't see the enemy coming"

The 80% number came from my post upthread. I think it's clear that I was mis-remembering something, and was mistaken. I am assuming Barrett who responded up there is Barrett Tillman. I think his response to my post was good enough. I am sorry for having bumped this ancient thread, it was a...

    Black Friday - June 1, 1945

I've read a lot about this, and it was terrible. I have long wondered if any of the individual pilots who flew into the storm that day, were also there on March 25th when about 400 Japanese came out of the tunnels and attacked airfield #2 in force, and killed a bunch of them. Probably not. I...

"Most pilots shot down didn't see the enemy coming"

First, I am sorry for bumping a five-year old thread. If this is not allowed please delete my post. But when I typed my search into Google, this was the first hit. I have been scouring all my paper books and e-books and everything I have accumulated about WWII aerial combat, to try to figure...

    MOST OVERRATED AIRCRAFT OF WWII

Stuff like this has always blown my mind, about the Japanese in WWII: "Because the army and navy did not cooperate, army aircraft on New Guinea had to fly 1,500 miles to Manila for engine changes even though the navy had major maintenance assets as close as Rabaul. " (From Flyboy's link)

    F8F Bearcat Questions

Greg, under normal circumstances I would definitely be there. I'm not sure if I can make this one unfortunately but if I don't I'm going to just come to Chino another time, soon. To check everything out, and maybe also for the 475th and F4U weekends.
