Just out of curiousity, how did the Ju 88 nightfighters fare against the Mosquito? Were there any occasions on which a Junkers shot down a Mossie? I don't think the Ju 88 would be fast and agile enough to catch a Mossie...
I know this sounds like a bit of a noob question, but I can't find my screens in the Il-2 folder. Does anyone know where to get them? I used the print screen button and F12 for making them.
In 1943 all the Japanese had were Zeros, Ki-61 Tony's, Ki-43 Oscars and Ki-44 Tojos. IMHO these were all outclassed by the Italian Macchi fighters. By late war the Japanese did have better fighter aircraft, but of course Italian aviation industry never got the chance to put up anything against...
I just got the game at my local retailer yesterday morning. I hadn't played any Il-2 games before, but jeeze, what a great game!
Got started with several campaign, most notable in the Bf 109F-2 with III./JG 51 during barbarossa. Got 10 aerial kills in 6 sorties, including 4 SB-2 bombers in...
Thanks Adler, I guess most of the Udet Geschwader's claims are from their killing sprees in Russia during 1941-42, same story for JG 5, in particular the II. and III. Gruppen with Bf 109s in Finland and on the northern fronts.
It would be interesting to know some claims per Gruppe. I know...
Hey there,
Could some one fill in the gaps in this table? I'm interested in the total number of kills per Geschwader, or even per Gruppe or Staffel if anyone has those.
JG 1: ?
JG 2: 2700+
JG 3: ?
JG 4: ?
JG 5: ?
JG 6: ?

Trying to get into the discussion here:)
Erich, do you have any more info on Panzerblitz actions in 1944-45, especially concerning Fw 190F-8 units of SG 1? I have some interesting pictures in Word documents, but I can't get them on the forum yet. Anyway, if you or someone else has any info...
Recently I saw a profile of an He 177 unit on the eastern front which had their aircraft equipped with heavy calibre 50 mm cannons to combat Soviet flak positions. What was the idea behind this? Doe sanybody have more info?
Interesting to speculate about that, I personally think you at least need an aircraft which has or can be armed with an MK103/108 3cm cannon. The Japanese 20 mm cannons proved to be inadequate against B-29s, they needed to pour a hell of a lot of rounds into a Superfortress to bring it down...
MiG 15 had of course superior speed and altitude, but did they bring down a lot of Superfortresses?
BTW, proportionally seen a lot of B-29s were lost to fighter attacks at night, the Navy's J1N1-S Gekkos and of course Ki-45 'Nicks' being very succesful.
An extract from Osprey's Aviation...
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering what your opinion on this is. Seeing that most Japanese aircraft engines suffered from the thin air at high altitudes, where the B-29s operated, it's quite a difficult comparison.
1. Ki-45 Toryu ('Nick') twin-engined fighter, succesfully used by 4th 53rd...
Just out of curiosity, what were the notable successes and 'black days' of II.(Sturm)/JG 300? I can think of many concerning IV./JG 3, but did this Sturmgruppe destroy 'heavies' in any significant numbers?
BTW, what about II.(Sturm)/JG 4? Any remarks and/or notable feats abouth them:) ?
Erich,
Do you have any information concerning the action's of the Bf 109G-14 equipped II./JG 53 in 1944-45, like victory claims, engagements, loss lists etc.
I believe Major Gerhard Michalski commanded the Gruppe for most of the time.
Thanks in advance,
Nick
