    Aircraft carriers/time of launch

Here is an article that might give you some additional insight. Set and Drift: Doctrine Matters why the Japanese Lost at Midway | Naval War College Review | Find Articles at BNET.com Was watching a show on the history channel (one of em) that said that 200 plane strike was launched in 10...

    Poor Aircraft, Best Pilot

This is a bit of a tangent, and I didn't want to siderail the "Best Pilot of WW2 thread". I wanted to do a bit more reading on this aread, the Ground Actions in WW2 always held my interest. The Pilot thread gave me a wealth of Pilots to research, but I wanted to narrow it a bit first. I...

    Japanese Combat Experience

Is there even a debate , that the Zero was a superior dogfighter/fighter vs the Wildcat? Everything I have seen about the subject has landed on the side of the Zero, with absolutley no debate. The results were always attributed to factors that had nothing to do with the AC in question, such...

Best Tank Killer of WW2 continued

The A-10 is my favorite aircraft by far. I couldn't imagine being in a ditch in some desert watching 2 circle in for their attack run on my position. I imagine a C-130 would have the same "crap in my pants" factor only you probably wouldn't notice them until everyone around you starts imploding.

    Japanese Combat Experience

Sorry Kool, you posted as I was typing and I missed it until just now. Didn't mean to bypass you. The Zero vs Wildcat debate is raging in a forum I participate in. Its acutally why I wanted to explore this line, these guys are scanning government reports etc. One point of contention is that...

    Japanese Combat Experience

The title of the thread is misleading. Japanese History Post WW1 101 will give you where their combat experience came from. What is in every basic WW2 book, is that the US faced crack pilots in superior planes(debated) until 2nd generation planes came in and enough pilots had been killed by...

    Japanese Combat Experience

I have a question I was hoping someone could answer: Where does the unbelievable level of quality of Japanese Naval aviators at the outbreak of WW2 come from? From everything I have read, pilot quality can overcome a lot of disadvantages. Although debated, the Zero was at minimum the equal...
