What Aircraft Type(s) Were Assigned to 18th Recon Sq 1938-1939?

Hi Geoffrey Wow. That is amazing information, and precisely what I seek. Thanks for the link, and I'll try to get the 1939 reel from AFHRC when they open back up. Great job--and great memory to recall you have this esoteric info! Am looking for this info because I'm writing a short bio of...

What Aircraft Type(s) Were Assigned to 18th Recon Sq 1938-1939?

Thanks--interesting, although taken a year after my narrow timeframe. I believe the 18th was designated the "18th Reconnaissance Squadron (Medium)," so B-18s seem likely candidates as opposed to any aircraft in the "O" category.

What Aircraft Type(s) Were Assigned to 18th Recon Sq 1938-1939?

The 18th Reconnaissance Squadron, AC, was assigned to Mitchel Field, NY, during the late 1930s. I cannot find any information about the aircraft type(s) the unit flew in 1938-39. Maurer's Combat Squadrons of the Air Force covers only WW II unit histories, so does not help. Got any info or...

Calling Canadians: Carl Vincent & George Hopp Collections

Can you put me in touch with whoever acquired Carl Vincent's collection of RCAF/RCN aircraft photos and info? Also...George Hopp's collection? I was lucky enough to acquire Carl's outstanding book Canada's Wings 2: The Liberator and Fortress when it was published in 1975 (ye gods, HALF A...

British Balloon Bombs in the Balkans, Summer 1943?

Should have added I found 7 police reports about downed balloons during this period, but they're may have been more since I did not check police reports from every jurisdiction in Romania or the other countries. Also, the date the downed balloon only approximates the date it could have been...

British Balloon Bombs in the Balkans, Summer 1943?

I should have titled this thread SOE/OSS Balloon Bombs in the Balkans during the summer of 1943? Found some of my Romanian police contact reports but haven't yet laid my hands on the other countries' reports. Confirmed Romanian balloon "find" reports were between 5 Jun 43 and 7 Jul 43 (there...

British (RAF/SOE) Flight Dates Over Balkans 1943

Hi Paul I contacted Tempsford as soon as you posted your suggestion, but they've not answered so far. Is there any other source I should try, or is there a specific person at Tempsford I should contact directly? Ol' Mac

Coastal Command Low Level Strike Camera Mirror Attachment?

This is really interesting, particularly the fact so many variations of the rearward-facing mirror were flown on the B-25. The F-24/K-24 camera mount on the Liberator was quite different from the B-25 variations listed on that thread, so at this point the jury's still out on whether any of...

Coastal Command Low Level Strike Camera Mirror Attachment?

Do you have any information on the RAF Coastal Command's strike camera mirror attachment for taking photos directly aft of the aircraft during low level submarine attacks? The Liberator IIIs and later had a standard B-24 fold-down camera mount just aft of the rear crew entry hatch, but it was...
