I received the Orange book on the 202 in the mail the other day, and I'll post more once I've read through it somewhat. I flipped through it, and it seems interesting so I look forward to reading it.
I'm currently reading the title on the Stuka published by Ian Allan under their Classics series. Written by Eddie J. Creek and titled "Junkers Ju 87: From Dive Bomber to Tank Buster 1935-1945"
With that being said, I thought I'd drop my two cents in...
The author sets out to tell the story...
Was that installation just a trial for the upcoming 205 or was it seriously considered for the 202? The pods seem a bit draggy. (They remind me of the 23-mm pods on the P-36 that were trialled.)
Great finds! Where'd you come up with those? In particular I'm curious about the bomb rack diagram. Is that diagram saying two bomb racks on each wing or two total?
Thanks for sharing gents! The tanks that the 202 205 carried are, from what I've read, 26.5 U.S. gallons (about 100 litres actually) in size. Smaller than most other external tanks from the era. The airplane in the museum was most likely carrying tanks of that size as is the one in the last...
I've been doing some reading up on the 202, and the more photos and stuff I find about it, the more I've really begun to appreciate it...especially for its looks. To me it's just a gorgeous airplane.
I was wondering.....has anyone ever been able to locate photos of this aircraft with...
The book didn't mention much about sights...just the reflective sight that was standard on the early P-40's at the time. Given that the primary reason for the centerline station was the external fuel tank, I'd wager they just realized it was relatively easy to install a bomb in place of the tank.
So I read the first volume on the P-40 in the Detail Scale series by Squadron Signal. Interesting enough, it mentioned that the P-40C was also able to carry a 500-lb. bomb in lieu of the 52-gallon. drop tank. a Short, but most interesting read. I've never heard of the Flying Tigers using any...
So is bumping allow on the forum (I would assume no), and if not then would any of you suggest others places I could search for this information?
Doesn't seem to have attracted much attention... :(
Many thanks for the warm welcome. You guys do make it sound like I know more than I actually do though. I was under the impression that ya'll would be teaching me stuff. :)
The main two areas I'm interested in are the drop tanks (at what point (or model) did they switch from the 52-gal. tank to...
Hello all. Let me start by saying I'm new here so please pardon the ignorance regarding forum etiquette. I'm a big aviation buff, and WWII is one of the most fascinating eras to me. I have an incredible amount of respect for the men and women who took part in that war, and in particular the...
