    Bf109 performance data/specs

I looked around and can't find any good performance data on the G-6/AS and/or G-14/AS (should be similer) or the D powerd G-10. The info I do get seems to be either for a different type or in conflict with one another. Info like this for the E, G-6 and K-4 seem to be an easy find. I looked at...

    combat altitude in the ETO

Soren that was a piece of info I was missing thanks. A question I was going to bring up was. I have all these charts that show power and to a extent performance at different altitudes. I also have pilot accounts of combat. you can see how as aircraft gain altitude performance changes...

    what's the diffrence?

hohun when I find that paper i'll post it. It will not be right away. All I remember is that it was about 109 engines and that I found is funny becasue of the BF Then ME used togther. As far as the 109 data plates, I'm sorry I don't have enough knowledge to help out there. The only data plate...

    combat altitude in the ETO

I started reading a book battles with the luftwaffe by theo boiten. this book uses actual accounts from both sides to tells about the air war over Europe. I found that most of the accounts of fighter to fighter "dogfight" were not what I have come to believe. Many were at altitudes far under...

    what's the diffrence?

Thanks hohun I didn't know that. I knew there was issues between them two and that the RLM had taken issue with the ME manfacture code. But have also seen the RLM send papers to both messerschmitt and daimler-Benz using the ME code themselves. Like I said somewhere I have a document where both...

    what's the diffrence?

I should also add this. I myself have never seen any official paper work between the RLM, OKL, and the reich high command that uses the ME code. it's always either BF or 8. I could be wrong, but that just based only on what I have seen thus far. I might be alot more usefull if it didn't take...

    what's the diffrence?

From how I understand it. willy wanted the code changed to ME and was denied. messerschmitt in many documents used it anyway. Also with other messerschmitt products under the ME code the general guy on the field would use ME or BF or whatever. Finally near the end of the war the RLM started to...

    what's the diffrence?

The RLM had full control over everthing, names, work numbers, paint/camo you name it. The RLM never changes the old manfacture designation. The correct manfacture code for the aircraft series 109 is BF. As others said the later aircraft used the Me code. I have seen the ME designation on engine...

    combat altitude in the ETO

It would appear you are right kool kitty. After some research It seems typical late war altitude for US allied bombers was about 25K. Early in the war they did fly lower, but after the luftwaffe gave them a few pretty good beating they were flying as high as possible to make intercept more...

    combat altitude in the ETO

The luftwaffe action reports I can't post here. But there are several sites that have USAAF after action reports. below is the site with the most. I have not read all of these yet. Some I have read before others are new. But there's got to be about 150 or so. If you search hard enough you can...

    combat altitude in the ETO

have now found a half dozen reports where the pilots actaully indcate what alt the bombers are at and where the ememy came from. One report state 28K while the other 5 all state 25K. two reports indcate the attacking fighters came from above and state 30K while the bomber were at 25K.

    combat altitude in the ETO

I have been going through action reports and kill claims on both the american side and the reich side and have come across something. After reading about100 of these reports so far I have not come across one that the pilot indcates he is engaged at or above 30K. The highest alt I have seen is...

    Best WWII fighter pilot....?

I was just reading about bar and you all make strong argument in his case. He did fly everything from the old 109's to the 262. Now you got me thinking.

    Best WWII fighter pilot....?

Both hartmann and marseille were well liked my many of the people under them and respected my the other side. hartmann never lost a wing man and marseille basically holds the record for aircraft shot down in a single mission and number of kills in the shorest time I think. I would say It's...

Operation of handley-page slats on the bf109

I hope this is the right place for this post. I did a search for info on here first and found several threads about the performance pros and cons of the slats but not really what i wanted. I was at the 109 lair and the info there is excellent, but did not fully answer my questions. Does anyone...
