    Life...sometimes it just sucks!

That is terrible, my condolences. A friend of mine lost his girlfriend last year and she was only 19; I never found out the cause and never felt I needed to ask. But he was a wreck for months; thankfully he's improved considerably over time.

    Best Long Range Artillery Piece

I don't know the answer to this question based on single gun vs. single gun because these are just numbers. From reading their operational experience it seems to me that the U.S. were dominant when using artillery purely down to their large numbers, and isn't this the important point of any...

8th Air Force use of Mosquitoes

I don't think it was all about bombs on target otherwise the use of light/medium bombers would have been far greater than their use, in fact the heavy bomber would have taken a back-seat to any aerial bombardment of Europe. Of course, I agree with the first part of your post, there's no denying...

8th Air Force use of Mosquitoes

The Mosquito could not be used for that level of bombardment simply because by allowing it to become a formation bomber it loses all of its advantages and would be destroyed in droves. The U.S. method of operating medium and light bombers still would not suit the Mosquito, it was a hit and run...

    Open cockpit question

I posted a picture a long, long, long time ago of a Meteor flying with his canopy open... nothing like cruising to combat in a jet chilling in the wind.

    Lend Lease for Britain

Without the economic and military support of the U.S. in the Pacific I still could not envisage a south-east Asia completely dominated by the Japanese because the naval power can only be extended so far inland; places like India and China would not be fully conquerable simply due to the...

Mid-air collision at Duxford- Mustang lost/ Skyraider damaged!

Where were you on the danjama, I was over near the land museum during the display so was on the "right" side when it happened. It certainly was a stunned silence when it happened and a lot of questions as to why his condition hand't been mentioned, which obviously led to fears of the worst. I...

    Well...

We don't like engineers in Britain anymore, so I get called scum...and looked at like I'm one by the passengers. I will have to look into it more over the winter and get some money together for the trip, Joe...if I go over to the U.S. it's not just going to be business!

Air power effectiveness during the early stages of WW2

It's been a long time since I've had to post an intelligent piece of information about history, and this is purely off memory so no scathing assaults on my knowledge! I'll ignore the naval side of things, Jabberwocky knows far more than me about that and I will seem useless! The RAF were a...

    What Annoyed You Today?

Instead of having a day off today I got put in the quality department to carry out an audit on one of our contractors; which means that instead of my usual four days off between shifts I've had 23 hours off...and won't be off now until friday.

    Well...

Thanks all, it's all been one massive ball ache to say the least; it's not enough to learn how to fix aircraft anymore. Thomas Cook don't require A P unfortunately, Chris, to get it is more for my own career advancement - there seems to be a few British companies wanting to get contracts...

    Well...

Oh yes; an added bonus to the day was a book I bought called Lightning Boys with the sigantures of the pilots there - one was in 11 (F) Squadron, it was great to ask my dad about the man - and he was an ass in the 1970s, and frankly quite rude in 2011 too. The stories in it are great, and...

    Well...

Thanks all. It was bad enough to see the tri-plane trip up, but at least everything was okay with that. Other than all that, the day at Duxford was amazing...even though they never mentioned that the three Me 109s were Merlin engined variants, or I may have missed that when enjoying an ice cream.

    Well...

Nice to see you're still here, pal. Everything has changed for me; currently working on the line at Manchester Airport for Thomas Cook. I am thinking of going over to the U.S. next year to get my A P license after I get my EASA Part A license. How are you? What are you up to now? And how...

    Well...

...after many moons away, I felt the need to say that I'm now a qualified aircraft engineer. :D And I unfortunately was there to see Big Beautiful Doll go down. :( Hello!
