Wow, Ambassador Kennedy really seems to have charmed the public. Im glad that, at this time, the Japanese / American relations seem safe. I'm wondering if Ambassador Kennedy has been questioned about the Senkaku Islands, and The Presidents decision the fly the B-52's through this air space?
well its true that development plans where originally set down in 1939...however the F4U was designed to meet fighters that met the specification's of fighters like the A6M Ki-43. To be more accurately stated.

It seems to me that the mission was top secret, and the USA didn't want the Japanese to (even suspect) that their top secret codes had been broken. The USAF did everything that they could think of, to make the attacking P-38's look like they where on a typical sweep. They might have thought that...
