Hello
Thanks for answers, but I still don't know what may cause the difference in power drop beetwen for example BMW 801D/Merlin 66 and Jumo 213 E-1. As I've written before on BWM 801 chart the power goes up from SL till reach FTH of particular gear, then power drops untill 2nd gear is...
I would like to ask about differences in the way that engine power decrease with altitude, but first some performance charts:
BWM 801D2
or Merlin 66:

Both engines have 2-speed supercharger. We can see in both cases that the power...
Hello
Does anyone has anything more specific then those chart:

Well, for me this chart in terms of speed iis awfully unclear - so many similiar looking lines.

Hello
Well, I've read that on March 13, in late afternoon Willi Reschke had a chance to shoot down Mosquito. British aircraft was returning to base at over 9 km. The Ta 152 were flying lower than Mosquito, so Willy Reschke increased engine's rpm and started climbing. After one minute he...
Hi
Wow, i'm impressed - so many interesting information, statistics and technical characteristics. Guys, I've got one question related to P-51 maneuvrability - what about stall characteristics of P-51 ?? I've read that laminar wing could stall much more violently than conventional wing - is...

My little observation: in this topic we are not trying to assess the German industry situation in 1944-45 and we're not trying to show how great influence on the war P-51 or Bf 109 had.In my opinion making an assessment (of fighter's characteristics) based on the number of...

From:
Flying the Bf 109: Two experts give their reports Flight Journal - Find Articles
about Bf 109:
"When you maneuver above 500km/h, two hands are required for a more aggressive performance. Either that or get on the trimmer to help. Despite this heavying up, it is still quite easy...
Hi
I'm not sure if that is true but I read that for example in Fw 190 push-rods were used for the controls instead of cables - and that's why Fw 190 easy to control even at high speed.
And therefore I have questions: how did those push-rods work (hydraulic)?? and what was the situation of...
Hi
Sorry, I expressed wrongly - I meant that Me 262 isn't (for me) the best choice if we want to stand against enemy fighters. Schwalbe was quite effective weapon against bombers and of course if we select appropriate tactic (for example based on speed) we could also engage enemy fighters as...
Well
Like for me Me 262 isn't typical fighterplane :) it's rather bombers-killer aircraft, not created to engane P51 D, but to shoot down B-17 and B-24.
My list is:
1939 - Me 109E
1940- Spitfire
1941- Bf 109F/Spitfire
1942- Fw 190A
1943-I have no idea
1944 - P47D or Fw 190 D9
and 1945...
Hi
So after this which has Mike Williams presented us, I'm a little confused about real P-51 capabilities ...
But this description reffers to P-51B. Does "D" have also excellent controllability and rate of roll?? And I have also one more question: why Bf 109 was difficult to controll at high...
Hi
I've been reflecting on this aspect of P-51 Mustang characteristics and I couldn't get to any reasonable conclusion. I've heard that laminar wing reduced drag, but it will also stall earlier. However, I also read that P51 could turn very sharply and was quite controlable at high speeds.
So...
Hi
I'm sorry for that I didn't give my source, but I wasn't sure. This quote (about Willi Reschke's fight) I found in JG 301 "Wilde Sau" [Kagero Publication]. This small book was based (among other things) on: Willi Reschke, Jagdgeschwader 301/302 "Wilde Sau". What is more interesting, I found...
