Canadian plane crashes in Nashville killing 5

I can see this from both sides. But first, I'll state that I'm no aviation expert, nor do I know what actually happened in this latest crash. I just see it as a tragedy. I recall in about 1986-87, I was training on Ultralights in the London Canada area, and absolutely loved it. I couldn't wait...

    Rolls royce merlin build

Jamie I might be the "Master" but you are the new stud. Superb work, and your overall speed has me in awe. Keep up the great work. And let me know when you need the carburetor files for printing. Cheers,Tom.

    P-51 propeller hub

OK, the file has been sent. I called it BarrelRearFull_DEC01 and the DEC01 means it's been decimated once. Please let me know when you get it. And how it compares to the front half. Tom.

    P-51 propeller hub

Hi Jamie; I can't email anything bigger than 20 megs. This leaves 2 choices. I either decimate the file down to below 20 megs (should actually work) or use a file transfer system. hey, lucky you. I just tried decimating it (reducing triangle count) and now it's down to 12 megs. The surface is...

OK, well, how do we get the file to you ? And what type of printer are you using, just curious.

    P-51 propeller hub

Hi Jamie, That was quick ! Now I see what you're doing, and it looks great. I think I can help you. Keep in mind, that my full hub was reverse-engineered essentially over the phone, and email. Guaranteed there are shape errors, but you'd have to be a total expert to find them. It was a guy...

    P-51 propeller hub

Hey Mustang Boy, I could have really used those parts, to scan, a few years ago when I was modeling the 24D50 hub. But I did finish, based on only a few measurements that I was given by a propeller guy. Here is what I have, but it will have inaccuracies, since I just used very basic...

How are Propeller Blades Made ?

Gents, thank you. Michael, when you say "butt end is then upset to make the rings permanent" I assume that the rings are installed, then by "Upset", you mean forged into a shape that now has that large bulb on the blade root end ? And then it's machined nice and clean ? Tom.

How are Propeller Blades Made ?

GTX, I vaguely remember something like that in High School Health class, but I can't recall who makes the first move................. No Donkeys ! I mean how does the ringed stuff get shoved over the large diameter root thingy. And no more Eastern Block contortionist explanations ! Cheers, Tom.

How are Propeller Blades Made ?

Hi, I've been wondering, how are typical WW II propeller blades made. For example, the 24D50 paddle blades from the P-51D, has a large "bulb" on the root end, and some rings, spacers, and other hardware that cannot be removed once the blade is created. How did these parts go onto the blade in...

Wanted: P-51 Propeller info, for 3D Printed Replica. Mounted to Packard Merlin Engine.

Sorry Bigmerle and Tom Fey, I realize that I've been addressing the wrong person. Been getting a lot of replies from a Greg lately about the propeller. 4 beer is too many for me on any given evening, apparently.

I'll take your word for it. Again, not a purist.

Well, that's a good point. I bought a -9 crankcase from California. So I call it a dash 9. No doubt, the total collection is a mish mash of Merlin parts, of different marks. But I'm calling it a dash9. I guess I'm not a purist.

Thanks for the data sheets, MiTasol. I will try to digest what they mean at some point. Cheers, Tom.

Wanted: P-51 Propeller info, for 3D Printed Replica. Mounted to Packard Merlin Engine.

Hi Mac; I use a 3D Systems HiQ, Selective Laser Sintering station (SLS). It's an industrial printer, not what you'd find in a kid's bedroom. Although, any reliable printer is an excellent start. Your nephew will learn a lot about file creation or repair, maybe reverse-engineering, which is a...
